Though I am here speaking, it is with the voice of my whole family who helped me on this.
I asked my brothers for what stood out personally to each of us about our dad and we kept coming back to lessons he taught us through word,
but more importantly,
through action.
For me, it was the importance of a life of selfless service.
For [my middle sibling], the importance of planning and resilience.
For [my youngest sibling], the importance of leaving a place better than when you found it.
These lessons guided us to our activities as children and our lives as adults.
I'd like to think that with his lessons to us,
we become part of that legacy to strive to make the lives of those we are with, better.
Like a game of chess, which he taught us all, life can make many moves tl and
shift possibilities. He taught us to have a goal... Adapt to change when it occurs... Make
sacrifices for those in their care... and learn to adapt to unexpected loss. As an Anchor
during turbulent times, he kept us oriented in the safest direction in the storm, and we
must realize that we too are that safety for others in their turbulent times. Though his
passing from our lives here still hurts, and it will, this is a chance to use the searing
pain to not weaken us, but to steel ourselves and strengthen our resolve to keep moving
forward in the name of those we love. It is important to remember that this is a celebration
of his life. Of the time we shared. Of the memories we made. Of the challenges we 9vercame.
And Of the lessons we learned. And a celebration of his legacy that I hope you will join my
Brothers and I to hold in our hearts and actions, here in our daily lives, as we march
forward, refining ourselves until the day we will reunite. Setting goals and planning gives
us hope for the future. Resiliance keeps us moving forward when plans change, keeping an eye
to leaving behind a better world than when we found it. In service to all. So that one day
people will say of us, as we say now of him...
Thank you for all you've done for all of us. We will miss you. And we will pay it forward in memory of you.
